Although I do not have ulnar nerve problems, a former sorehander and
friend of mine has this problem and forwarded me these articles and I am
passing the information on to you and others.
She personally consulted with A. Lee Dellon, MD in Baltimore, Maryland
regarding ulnar nerve surgery and was advised that it would not be
beneficial in her situation.

The first article is:  "Techniques for Successful Management of Ulnar
Nerve Entrapment at the Elbow" Author: A. Lee Dellon, MD, FACS published
in Neurosurgery Clinics of North America Vol.2, No.1, January 1991 .

additional references listed at the end of this article as Dr. Dellon
has published extensively on this topic as well as others.  Too many for
me to type but a must read before surgery is considered.

The second article is: "Nonoperative management of cubital tunnel
syndrome: An 8 year prospective study" Authors: A. Lee Dellon, MD, FACS;
William Hament, MD; and Allen Gittelshon, PhD published in Neurology
Volume 43, Number 9, September 1993.  You should also look at the 20
additional references listed at the end of this article as well. For a

The third reference is a book titled: "Surgery of the Peripheral Nerve"
Authors are: Susan Mackinnon, MD and A. Lee Dellon, MD ISBN #
0-86577-283-5 $179.00.  You can probably find a copy at a medical
library to review.  Publisher is Thieme if you want to purchse call
1-800-782-3488.  JAMA quotes: "A 'must' for everybody involved in upper
extremity surgery and recommended reading for students of nerve anatomy,
nerve physiology, nerve pathology, peripheral nerve surgery, and
rehabilitation of the upper extremity."

I also believe Bob Morency's wife had the ulnar nerve surgery, a former
sorehander.  Penny, can you help me out and remember where Mrs. Morency
wrote about her personal experience?  Mr. Morency works at LLBean in the
Ergonomics Dept. and I am not sure if he still works there or not.

It will take you some time to get these articles and read them, but you
should do your homework on this surgery before you consider it.
