(1-800-827-6364) Wrist pain is NOT normal after playing guitar for any amount of time. It may arise for a number of the following reasons: 1) You're playing with too much pressure on the neck of the guitar, thus irritating the tendons in the hand and wrist. 2) A recent change in instrument (wider neck, thinner neck, different type of strings, etc.) may bring on soreness in the wrist due to the change in technique. 3) An sudden increase in playing time may also cause pain to occur due to the overuse of the tendons. 4) You may have a pre-existing problem in the neck (cervical spine) which is leading you to have irritation in the wrist due to improper nerve function. 5) Bad playing technique will irritate the wrist and arm. 6) A change in playing style, such as going from the typical classical style with the guitar on the left leg (if right handed) to the folk style with the guitar on the right leg. If you continue to suffer from wrist pain - DO NOT hold off in having it examined. These injuries, also known as Repetitive Strain Injuries, can end careers and affect your daily living. I own a holistic health center that specializes in treatment and rehabilitation of these injuries via chiropractic, acupuncture, massage therapy, and guided imagery.
